Romana Van Lissum Interviews 50 Exotic Dancers for a Controversial and Unique Book

November 2012 – MAPLE RIDGE, BC – Just when you thought you had read every taboo subject, comes an unusual new book about strippers—The Life of a Stripper (ISBN: 978-0987997609, paperback, 302 pages, 5 ½ x 8 ½, $19.99).

Working as a cocktail waitress for over 18 years in a popular Vancouver strip club, Romana Van Lissum has collected 50 true stories from exotic dancers. Through an intimate and candid style, she manages to capture the true essence of this questionable industry while challenging society’s stereotypes to bring forth the truth. The stories range from drug abuse, psycho boyfriends, crooked clubs, and prostitution to homelessness, porn, and hustling.

What makes this book different from any other is the approach of substituting the name of a flower as an alias which allows the women to be totally open and give their insider secrets. This eye-opening book gives 50 different perspectives of the industry as opposed to the usual single person biography.

On launch day, April 23, 2012, Romana was thrilled that The Life of a Stripper became an bestseller. An Amazon reviewer stated, “The Life of a Stripper was equally informative and eventually broke down the ‘stigma’ even I had about these women. They’re VERY intelligent and strong people. Not everyone has been dealt a difficult hand of cards in the game of life, and the ones that have, it is clear to me that most of them are strong and have overcome their insecurities and moved on. Not all have had struggles.  Many of them come from backgrounds of a supportive and loving family, and have simply joined the circuit by choice.”
