Meet Sunflower…

I was an only child and I lived in the country surrounded by animals. My dad did not believe in laziness so he always had me up at six in the morning on the weekends, as well as school holidays to work in his carpenter shop with him. All I can say about my mom is that she is an angel. My parents are amazing people and they always taught me to be kind to my elders and to be a good person.

Four years ago, I traded in my stilettos and mini skirts for rubber boots and overalls and I lived ‘off the grid’ for three years. My boyfriend and I lived on solar power, used an outhouse and cookhouse, and we lived in an eight hundred square foot military tent for the summer until we built our cabin. Then we took in troubled teenagers and put them through a boot camp program where we helped them find the right path in life. This whole lifestyle was a very humbling experience. During this time, I had a face to face encounter with a cougar. Jessica-Lynn (one of my rescues) saved the day. If she would not have been with me that day, well, let’s just say that she’s my hero! It was the most surreal experience of my life.
